Verse of the Week: “Do nothing from selfish ambition or empty conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves.” Philippians 2:3 

Thought for the Week:  These humbling words from Saint Paul to the Church in Philippi are something of a wakeup call. And also, a little hard to digest if we think about them carefully. Regard others as better than yourselves? Surely Paul doesn’t mean all others, right? Or does he? I think the point to be heard in this difficult passage is that we are all in this together. Each blessed with our own particular gifts. And in order for us all to come together in community as we were originally created to do, then we need to acknowledge that we are all equal participants in that community which itself is nothing less than the Body of Christ. And to do that, we need to stretch our own humility just as far as it goes and meet our companions on this journey, each and every one of them, with kindness, love and compassion.
